As we have discussed Memphis Football head coach, Ryan Silverfield, has a knack for finding talent in the transfer portal. Looking at the 2024 season, another talented player comes to the roster from a “P5” program. We would see newcomer Mario Anderson Jr named to the 2024 Doak Walker Award, on Tuesday, by the PWC SMU Athletic Forum. The Forum annually presents the award to the nation’s top running back.

Anderson, who joins the Tigers from South Carolina where he was the Gamecocks leading rusher, with 707 yards, and 3 touchdowns on 143 carries. In addition to his ground efficiency, Anderson added 22 receptions for 153 yards and a receiving touchdown further solidifying his dual-threat impact on an already loaded offense.

The 5-foot-9 senior hailing from Summerville, South Carolina would top the century mark last season with 100+ yard games against Tennessee and Vanderbilt. Joining Anderson are 86 other players on the list. The names will be slimmed to 10 semifinalists in November, and three finalists, as voted on by the Doak Walker National Selection Committee, will also be announced in November. The final recipient will be announced on The Home Depot College Football Awards on December 12, 2024. With this, the Forum will announce a National Running Back of the week, on each Tuesday of the regular season.
