Redbirds Continue to Soar as Midseason Approaches
Memphis, TN – June 30, 2023 – Amid the anticipation of upcoming games and the excitement of playing on the Fourth of July, the Redbirds have been on a path of steady improvement, according to recent discussions with key players and the manager.
First baseman Luken Baker, with an impressive 49 runs, 20 home runs, 58 RBIs, and a .313 batting average in 61 games played, expressed his excitement about the atmosphere surrounding the July 4th games. He noted, though, that the Redbirds, unfortunately, won’t be hosting a game on Independence Day this year. Baker also spoke positively about the changing dynamics in the clubhouse, noting that players seem to be enjoying their time on the field more, and the team has started to notch up more wins.
Manager Ben Johnson also exuded confidence in the team’s prospects for the second half of the season. “We’ve got a good group of guys and we’re learning every day,” he noted. Johnson was particularly complimentary of Baker, praising his focus and work ethic. He also highlighted the versatility of right-handed pitcher Grant Black, whose stats for the season include a 7.88 ERA, 32 innings pitched, 49 hits, 29 walks, and 20 strikeouts.
Black himself acknowledged some ups and downs in his performance but expressed excitement to be a part of the Redbirds during the holiday games. He also praised the camaraderie in the clubhouse, describing it as the best he’s ever experienced.
As the Redbirds continue their journey through the season, they’re showing signs of resilience and a positive attitude that could bode well for their performance in the second half. Their dedication to improvement and their camaraderie on and off the field are clear indicators of a team that’s ready to rise to any challenge.
As the Fourth of July weekend approaches, the Redbirds are gearing up for the excitement. And while they may not be hosting a game on the day itself, the spirit of the holiday and the fireworks are sure to light up their performances.
