Fight To The Finish: The Boston Celtics Become The 2024 NBA Champions
By Khala Hoyle
Jayson Tatum and the Boston Celtics have accomplished a feat not done in sixteen years. With the 106-88 win over the Dallas Mavericks last night, the Celtics snapped a sixteen-year skid as they last won the title in 2008.
The Finals series match-up between the Celtics and Mavericks would have been a complete sweep but the Celtics strategically lost Game 4. This led to an advance for the home-court advantage and allowed the win to be on their own turf. Boston swept through the playoffs knocking opponents, such as the Pacers, Cavaliers, and the Heat right off of the map. Each key player took turns setting fire to the opposing teams, leading to many strong finishes. The 2023-2024 Celtics roster has proven to be one of the most versatile teams in the NBA.
Boston, as a collective, set the bar high and made history. Not only did the team have the best offensive rating of the play-by-play era since 1997-98, they became the franchise with the most NBA Championship titles under their belt (18), surpassing the Los Angeles Lakers. The individual accolades kept getting better and better by the end of the season as well.
Kristaps Porzingis became the first Celtics player with 100+ blocks and 100 3- 3-pointers made in a season alone. Jayson Tatum joined the greats Larry Bird, John Havlicek, and Paul Pierce in scoring 1900 points in at least three seasons as a Celtic. Al Horford becomes the first Dominican-born player to win an NBA Championship. Honorably, Jaylen Brown’s athleticism and outstanding basketball IQ made him set the bar high, as he was awarded the NBA Finals MVP.
The Celtics may now raise banner 18 high into TD Garden as an honor of such a great accomplishment. Many wonder what may be next for this Celtics team. Stay in the know with the latest sports-related news from ESPN and 4 Star Sports Media.
