LIV Golf Announces Team Championship
The Blue Monster at Trump National Doral Golf Club in Miami is set to host the 2023 LIV Golf League Team Championship from October 20-22, in what promises to be a thrilling finale to a historic year of golf. The three-day tournament, featuring both match play and stroke play, will see top golfing teams head-to-head in a contest to clinch the season’s team championship.
“Our return to the iconic Blue Monster at Doral marks the culmination of the first year of team golf and a monumental moment for LIV Golf,” said Greg Norman, CEO and Commissioner of LIV Golf. “Our players and fans have embraced the concept of team golf with enthusiasm making this a significant year for us. The championship weekend will be action-packed with stellar golf and headline entertainment, making the event a must-see.”
The LIV Golf Jeddah, originally slated to take place in November, has been rescheduled to October 13-15 at Royal Greens Golf & Country Club. This tournament marks the final event of the regular season. The player who tops the individual standings at the end of the regular season will be named the Individual Champion, while the top three players will receive bonuses. The Team Championship’s seeding from 1-12 will be determined by the final team standings in the LIV Golf Jeddah. The top four teams will receive first-round byes, and further information on the Team Championship format and music entertainment will be revealed soon.
The regular-season tournaments award points to teams that finish in the top eight positions. The winning team receives 32 points, with the eighth-place team securing one point. Currently leading the team standings is 4 Aces GC, who has amassed 168 points after seven top-four finishes, including victories in Adelaide and London. The team boasts two-time major winner Dustin Johnson, 2018 Masters champion Patrick Reed, Peter Uihlein, and Pat Perez.
In second place is Torque GC with 129 points, featuring Chilean stars Joaquin Niemann and Mito Pereira, Colombian Sebastian Muñoz, and Spanish rookie David Puig. The team recorded victories in Orlando, DC, and Andalucía.
Close on their heels is RangeGoats GC, led by two-time Masters champion Bubba Watson and current individual standings leader Talor Gooch. They have 127 points thanks to five consecutive top-three finishes, including a win in Singapore and a fourth-place finish in London. Hovering in fourth place is the all-South African team, Stinger GC, comprising major champions Louis Oosthuizen and Charl Schwartzel, Branden Grace, and Dean Burmester, with 124 points.
As the countdown to the championship begins, fans are eagerly anticipating the clash of titans on the fairways of the Blue Monster at Doral, promising an unforgettable conclusion to the LIV Golf League’s 2023 season.
