The 19-9 and #2 seed Memphis Women’s Basketball team learned about their American Athletic Conference Tournament opponent. The Tigers will face UCF after the Knights would defeat Tulane 61-52. The Lady Tigers come in as the number two seed. We will examine the series and season history between the Tigers and Knights, some quotes from the UCF coach on the upcoming game, some Memphis players clawing at milestones, and how to watch and listen to the game.
Memphis vs. UCF Series
Memphis and UCF have met 34 times on the hardwood. Memphis leads the series at home with a 9-7 advantage, while the Knights hold the advantage in Orlando. When these two teams have met in neutral arenas, this series is tied together. This will be an exciting matchup to see who takes advantage. The current winning streak is at one game in the advantage of Memphis. The Lady Tigers would win 50-48 in overtime behind excellent play from Maddie Griggs and Emani Jefferson to secure the win.
UCF Head Coach Speaks On Memphis
Looking ahead to the next game against Memphis,
two-point overtime decision, what can you take from
that game that can prepare you for tomorrow?
SYTIA MESSER: “So if I heard you correctly, over time, with
Memphis, correct, and a two-point game.
We feel like that was a game, again, one of the games
we’ve gone back to, that we let slip. We were up with three or
four minutes to go, and it was a back-and-forth game and
just didn’t finish the deal. But our thing now, we know
Memphis is a really good team. They ended up finishing
second in our conference. They have great guard play and
post-play. They’re a very well-coached team.
We’ve just got to go out and do what we do and defend,
rebound, and do some offensive execution.
We’re extremely excited to have a chance to go back and
figure out what we can do differently to get Memphis again.”
Clawing At The Record Books
Jamirah Shutes has been racking up accolades all season. She is now clawing her way to yet another. Shutes is now only 17 points away from a career 1,500 points in her career. Shutes would only be the 13th player in program history to accomplish this. Her time at Memphis has been one of ups and downs, and it is refreshing to see her playing so well to finish her career.
How to watch and listen
