As the American Athletic Conference (AAC) Media Day approaches, anticipation is building for the return of this highly anticipated event. Taking place in Arlington, Texas, on July 24th and 25th, this year’s Media Day holds even greater significance as it marks the first in-person gathering since 2019. Additionally, the relocation of the conference headquarters to Texas adds an extra layer of excitement to the proceedings.
Among the conference’s esteemed members, the Memphis Tigers are undoubtedly a prominent participant. Memphis is led by fourth-year head coach, Ryan Silverfield, who will be looking to continue the successes of the Tigers into the 2023 season. The Tigers will be well-represented at Media Day, bringing four talented players who exemplify the skill and dedication of their program.
Leading the delegation is Seth Henigan, the impressive quarterback who has left an indelible mark on the Memphis football legacy. With an impressive career total of 6,881 passing yards, Henigan currently stands as the fifth-highest passer in the history of the program. However, he has his sights set on a higher goal, as he needs just 3,810 more yards to surpass the record held by the legendary Brady White and claim the title of all-time passing leader at Memphis. Additionally, Henigan has etched his name in the record books as the fifth-ranked player in career passing touchdowns, with 47 to his credit. Surpassing White’s record of 90 touchdowns would solidify his place as a true legend of Memphis football.
Accompanying Henigan at the AAC Media Day is Jacob Likes, a formidable offensive lineman who has been a mainstay in the Tigers’ lineup since his redshirt sophomore season in 2021. Likes’ durability and consistency are unparalleled, as he has demonstrated by starting every game since that pivotal year. This season, Likes will once again anchor the offensive line as the starting center, providing stability and leadership to the unit. His commitment to excellence extends beyond the field, as he has been nominated for the prestigious Allstate 32nd AFCA Good Works Team, recognizing his outstanding contributions both on and off the football field.
Defensively, the Tigers will be represented by Jaylon Allen, a standout defensive lineman whose rise to prominence has been nothing short of remarkable. Despite being a former three-star recruit, Allen has blossomed into a pivotal player on the defensive side of the ball. Last season, he started in every game and led the team in tackles for loss and sacks, showcasing his ability to disrupt opposing offenses. Allen’s tenacity and relentless pursuit of excellence make him a vital asset to the Memphis defense, and his presence at the AAC Media Day will undoubtedly evoke excitement among fans and media alike.
Completing the quartet of Memphis players attending the event is Simeon Blair, a dynamic defensive back who recently transferred from the University of Arkansas. Blair brings a wealth of experience to the Tigers, having played in an impressive 46 games during his tenure with the Razorbacks from 2019 to 2022. Of those games, he started in 22, further highlighting his impact on the field. Additionally, Blair’s leadership qualities were recognized as he served as a Team Captain for the Razorbacks, demonstrating his ability to inspire and motivate his teammates. In his final season at Arkansas, Blair recorded an impressive 73 tackles, two tackles for loss, and defended five passes, underscoring his versatility and playmaking ability.
The presence of these four exceptional athletes at the AAC Media Day promises to elevate the event to new heights. Their individual accomplishments and collective dedication to Memphis football and establishing itself as a premier program in not only the conference but the nation.
